Reading & Spelling
As students enter high school, the level of reading and spelling proficiency required is dramatically increased. In high school, much of the learning occurs through independent reading, and the majority of assessments are conducted in the form of writing. For this reason, it is important to develop efficient and effective literacy skills.
At North Shore Speech Therapy, we have fully qualified speech and language therapists who can assess dyslexia and reading and spelling difficulties. We run research-based programs to build foundation literacy skills in children of all ages.
For older students, therapy may also include learning rules of spelling, understanding morphographs and the associated spelling rules for using prefixes and suffixes. We may also work on developing effective reading comprehension strategies such as summarising and identifying the main idea.
