Your therapist will continue to work on the goals that have been identified but we will turn up the dial to get great results. Our intensives are tried and tested, and we can achieve in 5 days what would normally take 5 weeks. What a great way to use your holiday time! Going away? No problem! Our therapists are skilled at adapting therapy for online delivery via Zoom.
It is the intensity of therapy that gets results, so your child will need to have a minimum of 3 sessions in any week to qualify for the program.

Frequently Asked Questions
Intensive speech therapy involves more frequent sessions over a concentrated period, typically daily or multiple times per week, rather than the standard weekly appointment. It is designed for children of all ages who want to get a boost in skills quickly, or for families where home practise is not a possibility.
Intensive therapy works well for mastering a new sound, improving oral language, learning a new text type or for those with more persistent difficulties such as those with childhood apraxia of speech, severe speech sound disorders, significant language delays, or children preparing for school entry. Intensive blocks are often run during school holidays so children can attend without missing class.
For certain conditions, research supports higher therapy frequency for faster skill acquisition. Children with apraxia of speech, for example, tend to respond better to more frequent sessions because motor learning principles require massed practice with feedback. Some children/families prefer to have a burst of intensive therapy to reach a point where home practice is more achievable, or maybe their child has missed out on therapy for some time and now the gap is widening. Intensives can provide a quick boost in skills right when they are needed.
However, not every child needs intensive therapy. Your speech pathologist will recommend the most appropriate frequency based on your child’s specific needs and goals. Some children benefit from a short intensive block followed by regular weekly sessions to maintain progress.
Programs vary depending on the child’s needs. A typical intensive block might run for one to two weeks with daily sessions during school holidays. Some children complete one block and return to weekly therapy, while others may benefit from repeated intensive blocks across several holiday periods. The program is tailored to your child’s goals, and progress is reviewed regularly to adjust the approach.
