Language and Learning Difficulties:
What is the relationship and how can you help?
An interactive workshop for teachers of all stages, areas covered include: How to identify students with language disorder and dyslexia, what to do with these students in the classroom and who to refer them to outside of the classroom? A summary of current literature is provided which includes prevalence and treatment options.
Speak and Spell Series
Reading is taught across the state, but do we know how to teach spelling? A 2-part workshop series which covers best practice teaching approaches for reading and spelling with a focus on students who are having difficulties acquiring literacy skills. Teaching focus includes: Phonemic Awareness, Letter-sound knowledge and understanding how the English language is organised (spelling rules and patterns). Workshop One focuses on laying the foundation skills in Kindergarten and Year 1, and Workshop Two explores the development of these skills in Years 2 to 6.
Getting it Write:
Helping Reluctant Writers Improve Their Written Language
This workshop provides a summary of current research in best practice teaching techniques for written language. There is a focus on helping reluctant writers and students with language/learning difficulties. The workshop focuses on how to teach written language and includes lesson plans, sample activities and ideas for achieving best teaching methods.
Leaping Ahead with Speech, Language & Literacy:
A Workshop for Parents of School Aged Children
Parents will enjoy a practical 2 hour session focusing on all aspects of communication development. This includes what to expect from sounds to sentences, how to spot if a child is having trouble, and many practical games and ideas for what to do when you turn off the Technology!
