Information for children and parents
We want your experience at North Shore Speech Therapy to be positive, welcoming and supportive. Our sessions are age-appropriate and designed to put your child’s needs front and centre. For toddlers and pre-schoolers, this means a big emphasis on play-based therapy, and adapting the approach to your child as they get older, and as they progress.
Our first step will be to assess your child and determine what issues, if any, exist and what the underlying causes might be. This is a comprehensive process based on a number of factors. Of course, we also know that your child might not be demonstrating their best self in an unfamiliar environment with a new person, so we also draw on your insights on our intake questionnaire as well as input from other health professionals, preschool educators and school teachers.

Do you need a referral?
No, you don’t need a referral to see us. But if you are referred from your GP, teacher or other health professional, we can work with them and keep them up to date on your child’s goals, treatment and progress.
You can make a booking using our online contact form or phone us on 02 9411 3727.
Can I claim for speech therapy?
You may be eligible for a CDM (chronic disease management) plan which gives you a rebate from Medicare on each of your first five sessions – please talk to your GP to see if your child is eligible. CDM plans last for a calendar year. If you have private health insurance, some of this fee may be redeemable depending on your policy. Sessions are paid for on the day of therapy, with payment by credit card.
We pride ourselves on advocating for your family which we do through our excellent NDIS quoting tool and reports. We can work with self-managed and third-party (plan) managed NDIS clients. We are not able to make claims for you through the NDIA portal, but we can work with your plan manager to ensure smooth payment of speech therapy invoices.
We know that fitting therapy sessions in can be difficult with busy family life. And some children respond better from the familiar comfort of your home environment. That’s why we offer telehealth services, both for our families that are near us on Sydney’s North Shore, as well as across Australia and even internationally.
So many kids love their technology and so do we. We’ve found a way to make teletherapy engaging and novel, as well as easy for families to access. It’s fun and effective. Telehealth can also allow us to ‘be’ in your home and use whatever you have available day-to-day that can be used to support your child and extend their therapy beyond your formal sessions.
